When a loved one passes away, the emotional weight can feel overwhelming. In moments of reflection, many people wonder whether those they’ve lost might still be watching over them. It’s natural to seek comfort and connection, and often, people report feeling the presence of their deceased loved ones in various ways. Whether you’re looking for signs that your love one is watching over you, or simply seeking reassurance that a loved one is near, there are several common ways the departed may try to make their presence known.
Many people report experiencing signs from passed loved ones, including dreams, sense of presence, smells, and symbolic occurrences. These signs can provide comfort and reassurance during the grieving process. I like to call the ones who have passed, exactly that, passed. In other words, until we meet again as it is our physical body that dies but our soul or spirit if you will remains very much alive. This has been proven over and over again by signs that they send us. My question to you, have you received a sign(s) and if so, what signs have YOU received?
Before we discuss signs, I like to begin with a question get asked often, how do we know when it is truly their time (after all, we all have an expiration date), and what can we do? First be loving enough to let them go. Let them know you will be fine and one day you will see one another again. Many times, your love one will see someone they love who has crossed over and have a conversation with them. This happened to my mom who began to see an old neighbor who she hadn’t seen in years. She told me Tiny had come to visit with her. I didn’t realize at the time Tiny had passed. However, I didn’t argue with my mom I simply asked what Tiny had to say. I found out later that evening that Tiny had just passed!
Next when they are on their journey home, surround them with white light. This is for spiritual protection. I always use Arc Angel Michael and ask that he surround them with white light and wrap His big loving wings of blue color around my love one for sending his love. Once they have passed, continue to surround them with white light and ask the highest power you believe in to help them get to the highest place as fast as they can that is for their best and highest self. Me and a few friends did this for my mom and out of no where was a big flash of white light with a loud thunderous BOOM in the clear night sky. Talk about signs!
Ooohhh the signs are plentiful but I would like to list a few of them here that indicate a deceased loved one may be visiting you, offering insight into how the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds can manifest. You may have received different signs and know that is fine as long as you know and feel it in your heart that was truly a sign or even a message from someone you love who is no longer here in physical body!
Unexplained Scent
One of the most common signs that a loved one is nearby is a sudden, familiar scent. This could be the distinctive smell of their favorite perfume, aftershave, cigarette or cigar smoke, or even a particular food they loved. Scent is closely tied to memory, and when a deceased loved one wants to remind you of their presence, they may send you a sensory reminder of the times you shared.
In my medium sessions I often receive the aroma of freshly baked bread might remind you of your grandmother’s kitchen, while the scent of a particular flower could bring back memories of a garden you both enjoyed.
Dreams of Your Deceased Loved One
Dreams are often seen as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. When a deceased loved one visits you in a dream, it is often vivid, and the feeling of connection can be powerful. These dreams usually feel more real than regular dreams, with clear messages or comforting reassurance. You may wake up with a sense of peace, knowing your loved one is still with you in some way.

You might find something significant, like a piece of jewelry, an old photograph, or a personal item belonging to your loved one in a surprising location. Many years ago, I came home from a BBQ. As I was undressing, I heard something hit the wooden floor. I was too tired to look for anything. The next day I searched for what might have fallen and found nothing. The next day I was preparing for a reading and as I was dressing, I looked down and there was a tiny gold charm in the shape of an M. My name is Marilyn and my mother’s name was Margaret. At that time, she had already been passed for many years!!! Some people find coins, feathers, or even certain flowers that seem too perfectly placed to be a coincidence.
These signs from the deceased may be subtle, but they are often connected to meaningful memories or moments. Pay attention to objects that seem out of place or appear at times when you need comfort most.
Electrical Disturbances
It’s said that spirits can manipulate energy, and electrical disturbances are often cited as signs of a loved one’s visit. Lights flickering, televisions or radios turning on by themselves, or your phone acting strangely can all be indicators that someone from the afterlife is trying to communicate.

Mnay times in my medium sessions I will see a vision of a white dove either showing at their celebration of life or sending a message that they are at peace!

These musical moments often feel too coincidental to ignore, as though your loved one is reaching out through the lyrics or melody.
Whether it’s their favorite song or one that you shared together, these musical signs can serve as a heartwarming reminder that their spirit is still close. Music is often a way for loved ones to bring comfort and connection, especially during times when you’re missing them the most.
Unusual Animal Behavior
Animals are believed to be sensitive to spiritual energies, and unusual behavior from pets or wildlife can be a sign that your loved one is nearby. You might notice your pet acting strangely, staring at a particular spot, or behaving as though someone else is in the room. Similarly, a bird or animal showing up at an unusual time or in an unexpected place could carry spiritual significance.

Sooo many signs, sooo little time. My best advice is do not try to force signs. Ask then let it go. Once you do receive a sign, write it down. Keep an open mind and heart and watch for more signs to come!
